Pack up your fossils and hit the road!

Bring your fossil discoveries and get expert opinions about their ages and identities from our scientists!

* See the museum's fossil collection and collector displays including:

  • teeth of various shark species - some of the largest that ever lived,
  • a giant ground sloth - claws and all,
  • an articulated fossil horse foot,
  • fossil corals, seashells, and sand dollars,
  • squid-like ammonites, and various other extinct organisms that once lived in Mississippi.

* Enjoy hands-on activities, "fossil digs", and a scavenger hunt!

* Discuss dinosaur discoveries in Alabama and Mississippi with Jun Ebersole of the McWane Science Center.

* Explore school, agency, and organizational information booths.

* Check out the "Titanoboa: Monster Snake" exhibition.

* Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi will earn the FRS patch.

So, go through your "rock boxes" and challenge our staff with your prehistoric oddities. Who knows what might turn up this year?

There is no fee, other than regular museum admission, to attend the event and reservations are not required.
