Welcome to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks Quail page. Bobwhite quail populations have declined substantially in Mississippi during the last 50 years. These declines have been due to changes in land use and management.

Despite the loss of habitat and declining bobwhite populations, local quail populations can be increased with planned habitat management at proper scales. Abundant bobwhite populations were once a byproduct of agriculture. Today, habitat management practices that produce the proper cover resources required by bobwhites are essential to increase local bobwhite populations. If you are intersested in managing bobwhite habitat and populations, visit the Quail Habitat page for more information. Here you will find a wealth of information on quail habitat management.
