Winter Fishing Tips

Largemouth bass can be caught near the dam or the pier in 5 to 15 ft of water. Try using live bait or try using suspending jerkbaits and lipless crankbaits from the pier.

Crappie can be caught in deeper water, around 10 to 15 ft deep. Several anglers report catching limits (30 fish) of good size fish during winter months.  Minnows or jigs tipped with minnows are good choices.

Bream can be caught using crickets or worms around brushtops in 5 - 10 ft of water.

Catfish can be caught around creek channels and points. Try liver and worms fished on the bottom.

Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks Fisheries Biologists use various sampling methods to assess the fish populations in the State’s waters.   Sampling results for selected water bodies are summarized in Reel Facts Sheets.
