Lake Ferguson

Wednesday, March 22, 2017 4:22 PM

The MS river is currently at 36 feet on the Greenville gauge and falling.

Fishing continues to improve. The warmer weather has picked things up a bit. Some anglers are reporting a few crappie moving into the shallow waters around the trees on the western shore. Bass anglers have also been doing well on the north end near the piers.

Bass fishing will be dependant on river levels. Try targeting the northern areas of the lake, including around the upper lake, the stump field, around sandbars or inflowing ditches, or along steep rip-rap banks.  Jigs, brush hogs, or spinnerbaits are all good bait choices.

For catfish, try fishing trotlines baited with nightcrawlers or cut bait along mudflats or around the grain elevators, especially those that area actively loading grain, or fish deeper water tightlining with a rod and reel with the same baits or chicken livers.

Lake Ferguson is located in the city of Greenville, MS, inside the MS river levee. A public boat ramp is located next to the casinos. From Hwy 1 take Alexander St. west until you go over the levee and see the casinos. From Hwy 82 take Main St. west, which will also run you into the levee, casinos, and boat ramp.
