Winter Fishing Tips
Largemouth bass can be caught around the spillway, the dam, and piers in 5 to 15 ft of water. Try Texas-rigged plastic worms, crankbaits, and jigs. Night Crawlers work well near the pier.
Crappie can be caught in deeper water, around 10 to 15 ft deep. Minnows or jigs tipped with minnows are good choices.
Bream can be caught using crickets or worms around brushtops in 5 - 10 ft of water.
Catfish are usually good around the creek channel and near the spillway. Try liver and worms fished on the bottom.
Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks Fisheries Biologists use various sampling methods to assess the fish populations in the State’s waters. Sampling results for selected water bodies are summarized in Reel Facts Sheets.
