Natchez State Park receives Florida-strain Largemouth Bass
JACKSON - Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) recently stocked approximately 3,750 Florida-strain largemouth bass into Natchez State Park Lake. This 230-acre lake, located in Adams County, has historically been known as one of the state's top bass lakes and produced the state's largemouth bass record of 18.2 pounds in 1992.
"Our fall sampling revealed a healthy bass population, but the overall number of bass collected was slightly lower compared to previous years," said MDWFP fisheries biologist, Jerry Brown. "Our management plan for this lake calls for maintaining the bass abundance at a certain level; this stocking will help achieve that goal." The bass were reared at the Turcotte Fish Hatchery near Canton.
