Governor Bryant issues proclamation in honor of MDWFP’s 80th Anniversary

JACKSON - Gov. Phil Bryant signed a proclamation declaring November 3-4, 2012 as "Conservation Weekend" in honor of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks' (MDWFP) 80 year anniversary.

In honor of "Conservation Weekend" the MDWFP is offering free admission to Wildlife Management Areas, State Lakes, and State Parks November 3-4.

A celebration will also be held at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science (MMNS) on November 3 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. where participants can enjoy a zip line, archery, laser shooting, and face painting as well as tour the MMNS' Robotic Dinosaur Exhibit and aquatic attractions free of charge.

The MDWFP has celebrated its anniversary in 2012 by raising public awareness of its achievements in conservation over the last eight decades.

"It's extremely important that Mississippians know the history of our land and wildlife populations," says Dr. Sam Polles, MDWFP Executive Director. "The natural resources we enjoy today aren't here by accident but are the result of many conservation efforts and devoted sportsmen and women of this state."
