Dove Hunters Reminded to Check for Bait Before Hunting
JACKSON - Opening day of dove season is one of the most anticipated hunting days of the year, and a great time for fun and fellowship with friends and family. When heading to a dove field, hunters should take serious notice of how the field was prepared before hunting. Hunting migratory birds with the aid of bait is illegal, and it is the hunter's responsibility to know if the field is baited or not. A brochure on dove field preparation and hunting regulations can be found online at www.mdwfp.com/dove.
There are three questions hunters will need to be able to answer regarding how the field was prepared before dove hunting: Did IKNOWthe field was baited? Did ILOOKto see if the field was baited? Did IASKhow the field was prepared? The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks' primary objectives are to conserve and enhance the resource, to provide quality outdoor recreation, and to ensure everyone has a safe hunting experience.
