Volunteers Assist on East Central Wildlife Management Areas

JACKSON - Managing the state's Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) is a non-stop job, and sometimes it is nice to have an extra hand.  There is a variety of tasks that volunteers can assist with across the WMA system in Mississippi.  Two recent examples occurred on WMAs in east central Mississippi.  Volunteers helped improve access points and clear trail crossings at Black Prairie WMA which will help all WMA users.  At Trim Cane WMA, a group of local high school students from a wildlife resource mentor program assisted with selective herbicide treatments to improve wildlife habitat and learned about nuisance animal trapping efforts.  Similar volunteer tasks are available statewide within the WMA system and help is wanted.

Volunteering time and energy is an excellent way to help MDWFP improve wildlife habitat and populations on your local WMA.  If you would like to become a volunteer on a WMA visit our website for more information.
