2012 Camp Fish Events Scheduled
JACKSON- The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries,
and Parks (MDWFP) Fisheries Bureau and the Mississippi Bass
Federation have announced the 2012 Camp Fish schedule. Camps will
be held June 4-7 at Leroy Percy State Park near Hollandale, July
18-21 at the Turcotte Education Center in Madison County, and July
16-19 at Paul B. Johnson State Park near Hattiesburg.
The camp's purpose is to provide opportunities, skills, and
resources to Mississippi's youth and introduce them to the sport of
fishing. Some of the topics covered during the 4-day camp will
include fish identification and aging, fishing tackle and lure
selection, casting techniques, types of boats, and conservation
techniques. "The camp is much more than kids going fishing," said
MDWFP Fisheries Bureau Assistant Director Larry Pugh. "Classroom
discussions and hands-on exercises led by MDWFP fisheries
biologists will help students gain a better understanding of fish,
fishing, and fisheries management."
Youth ages 11-15 are encouraged to apply. Because of
limited space, only 20 applicants will be accepted for each camp.
Applications can be downloaded from our website or contact the
MDWFP Fisheries Bureau at (601) 432-2200. Return completed
applications to: MDWFP Camp Fish 2012, Attention: Larry Pugh, 1505
Eastover Drive, Jackson, MS 39211.
