Lake Lamar Bruce Fish Stocked
JACKSON - The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, & Parks (MDWFP), in cooperation with the Private John Allen National Fish Hatchery, stocked approximately 150,000 bluegill and redear sunfish and 4,000 channel catfish into Lake Lamar Bruce on December 18, 2012. "We're just thrilled we're ahead of schedule," said Fisheries Bureau Assistant Director Larry Pugh. "The dam project is complete; we've closed the valve and now have enough water to stock fish." The lake will be stocked with largemouth bass next spring.
The lake and facilities will remain closed for the next two years to allow the fish population to reproduce and expand. MDWFP anticipates opening the lake to fishing in late spring or early summer of 2015.
