Prescribed Burning Program Accepting Applications

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is continuing its partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Foundation for Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, Wildlife Mississippi, the National Wild Turkey Federation, Mississippi Forestry Commission and others to provide cost-share for prescribed burning on private lands.

Museum to Host “Farewell to Summer” on July 29, 2017

JACKSON - Looking for one last hurrah before summer break ends and school begins? MDWFP’s Mississippi Museum of Natural Science will host “Farewell to Summer” on Saturday, July 29, 2017 from 5 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. “Join us to sharpen your wits with this fun and playful way to welcome the school year,” explains Museum Director Charles Knight.

MDWFP to Host Pond Management Workshop in Winston County

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) Fisheries Bureau is hosting a pond management workshop in Winston County. The workshop will be hosted at Legion State Park, in Legion Lodge, located at 635 Legion State Park Road near Louisville on Tuesday, August 1st at 6 p.m. Those interested in attending this workshop may register by calling the MDWFP Jackson Office at (601) 432-2212.

Renovation Planned at Lake Mary Crawford

Lake Mary Crawford, located near Monticello, will be getting a facelift. Beginning on July 18, 2017, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) will start the process of draining the lake in preparation for planned renovations.

Leave Young Wildlife Alone

JACKSON – With summer quickly approaching, newborn wildlife is abundant in Mississippi. From hatching birds and newborn squirrels, to white-tailed deer fawns, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) reminds people to leave young wildlife alone.

July 4th Weekend Boating Enforcement Statistics

Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks Conservation Officers concluded the 2017 Operation Dry Water Weekend, which this year included the July 4th holiday. The heightened emphasis period began Saturday July 1 and ended Tuesday, July 4 at midnight.

MDWFP Graduates Eleven New Conservation Officers

JACKSON - Eleven newly sworn Conservation Officers will be patrolling areas of assignment across Mississippi this summer. Wednesday, June 28, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks held a graduation ceremony at Roosevelt State Park in Morton, honoring the 11 new Conservation Officers.

Wolf Lake Reopens to Fishing and Boating

YAZOO COUNTY – PURSUANT to the authority set forth in Mississippi Code Annotated §59-21-111 et. seq., the Executive Director of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, with the approval of the Commission, restricted certain recreational boating activities on Wolf Lake, Yazoo County, Mississippi, by order dated May 23, 2017.

Lake Lamar Bruce Record Bluegill Caught

SALTILLO – A Lake Lamar Bruce record bluegill was caught on June 11, 2017 by Raymond Burns of Baldwyn, MS. The fish weighed 0.57 lbs. Lake Lamar Bruce is a 300-acre state fishing lake located in Saltillo.

Executive Order: Suspension of All Recreational Boating Activity at Wolf Lake and Other Flooded Waters

PURSUANT to the authority set forth in MISSISSIPPI CODE ANNOTATED '59-21-111 et. seq., the Executive Director of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, with the approval of the Commission, hereby orders the suspension of all recreational boating activity on the lake or lakes listed below, due to the emergency flooding situation that currently exists along the Mississippi River.
