Educational
Opportunities
Educators have many opportunities at the North
Mississippi Fish Hatchery
Visitor Education Center (NMFH VEC). Educational
groups have taken advantage of the guided tours, programs, hands-on
activities, and workshops provided by the NMFH
VEC.
Guided Tours
For teachers bringing classes for a field trip, the facility offers activities and tours for all ages and abilities. The NMFH VEC Teachers' Packet is a new resource for educators, providing a detailed description of these tours and programs. This information packet also answers a list of Teachers' Frequently Asked Questions and provides a look into Enid Lake's recreational opportunities.
(For pictures of school tours, see the Photo Gallery section.)
Teacher Workshops
At the Visitor Education Center, educators have the opportunity to participate in yearly teacher workshops provided by the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science. In 2011, many teachers participated in Project WET, Water Education for Teachers. In 2012, teachers of all grade levels and subject areas participated in the WOW! The Wonders of Wetlands workshop.

Art Contests
The NMFH VEC hosts Youth Wildlife Art Contests through the Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Foundation (MWFPF). From clay sculptures to oil paintings, young artists in four different age categories create illustrations of native Mississippi species. The winners in each category received a certificate, and their work is proudly displayed at the Education Center and in the Mississippi Outdoors magazine.
