Public Water Alligator Zone Drawing Procedures Information

Applications will be accepted June 2 - 9, 2014 at www.mdwfp.com/draws

Applications are FREE.

Applicants must be Mississippi residents and at least 16 years of age to apply.

Applicants may only apply once for each alligator hunting zone.  Applicants may apply for any or all alligator hunting zone(s).

The application process requires a valid email address.

You must possess a valid MS Hunting License in order to apply.

The drawing is completed by a computerized preference point/score program.  See below for more details.

Winners of the drawing will be notified via email.  Notifications are sent to the email address provided during the application process.

Applicants may "check to see if you are drawn" by following the instructions at   www.mdwfp.com/draws after the drawing has been completed.  The drawing is usually completed within 3-5 working days of the application deadline.

Winners must "verify" their intent to participate by following the instructions within the email notification.  Winners who fail to verify, will be withdrawn and replaced with alternate winners following the verification deadline.

The verification process will also verify if the winner has participated in a MDWFP Alligator Hunting Training Course in the past.  If winner has not participated in a MDWFP Alligator Training Course, they will follow the instructions to register for a scheduled training course.  If the winner has attended a MDWFP Alligator Training Course previously, they can either decline attending again or register to attend again.

Winners who register for a MDWFP Alligator Training Course will receive their information packet and temporary alligator possession tags at the training course.

Winners who verify previous attendance to a MDWFP Alligator Training Course and decline to re-attend the course will receive their information packet and temporary alligator possession tags with instructions on how to purchase licenses/permits through the mail by mid-August.

Alligator Draw Hunt Procedure:

  • Each alligator hunt applicant receives a preference point score based upon their ID number, the number of historical applications submitted, and the number of times that that ID number has been drawn for an alligator hunt.
  • Applicants should consistently use the same ID number each year (i.e. driver's license number vs. social security number or MDWFP customer ID#) that is associated with their applications in order to compile a better alligator hunt application score.
  • All alligator zones are treated as 1 hunt and applicant prioritized each zone applied.  Once drawn for any zone, your chance of being drawn for multiple zones in the same year is significantly reduced.
  • You may apply for multiple zones, however once drawn for a zone you will be "moved to the back of the line" behind applicants who have not been drawn. This insures the most opportunity for the most individuals possible, each year.
  • There will be one "Permitted Alligator Hunt" score regardless of zone based on previous season's alligator drawings.
  • 25% of available permits within each zone are dedicated to first time alligator hunt applicants.
