Put your engineering skills and prove to yourself and all you know that you have what it takes to float on cardboard!

Welcome to Tombigbee State Park's inaugural cardboard boat regatta! Race friends, family, loved ones, and complete strangers in a boat made entirely of cardboard and duct tape.

Rules are:

  • Must be in teams of at least two. Registrants will need to register as team.
  • For structure of the boat, you can only use corrugated cardboard and duct tape. No waterproof or wax cardboard.
  • Duct tape can only be used on seams, no duct tape hulls!
  • Decorations can be made out of any material as long as they are not part of the structural integrity of the boat
  • Latex paint may be used for decoration above the waterline only
  • At the end of competition, all pieces of your boat must be placed in the designated spot for disposal. This includes any part of your boat that falls off in the water.
  • PFDs (Life Jackets) will be provided. All participants on the water will be required to wear one buckled at all times. You may also bring your own.
  • Have fun!

 

Schedule:

8:00 am - participants arrive at park

9:00 am - stationary parade: have your boat constructed on land and ready for spectators to walk around and see

9:30 am - judges will begin inspecting boats to ensure no unapproved materials were used

10:00 am - heats begin. Number of heats will be based on number of registrants
