Youth have opportunities for Draw Hunts throughout the year including dove, deer, turkey and waterfowl. Youth must have a Youth Exempt Hunting License customer ID to apply for draw hunts.

Fishing Rodeos introduce participants to fishing and recruit them to be responsible, licensed anglers and good stewards of our aquatic environment. Events feature educational activities focusing on fish, fishing, and environmental concerns.

Hunter Education

All persons born after January 1, 1972 are required to complete a hunter education course before purchasing a Mississippi hunting license. The hunter education course includes 10 hours of instruction, including range firing. Students must be at least 10 years of age to participate and must pass a written exam and complete a firing exercise to be certified as having completed the course.

Mississippi Museum of Natural Science Educational Programs

The Museum's education team draws from their diverse backgrounds in education and research as they share the Museum's resources with visitors and through outreach efforts. For schools across the state, they distribute instructional materials and present hands-on, interactive educational programs and teacher training workshops.

Youth Participation Initiative Grants (YPI)

The YPI Grant Program provides funding for the purpose of educating children in the areas of hunting, fishing, conservation, and safety. The MDWFP encourages applicants to focus on the education, recruitment, or retention of youth in the areas listed above or in any safety issues arising from the areas of hunting, fishing, or conservation.

MS Scholastic Shooting Program

The Mississippi Scholastic Shooting Program (MSSP) is a team-based, youth development program that uses the shotgun sports of 5-Stand, Skeet, and Sporting Clays to instill life skills such as discipline, safety, teamwork, ethics, self-confidence, and other life values.  The program utilizes these disciplines to teach hunting skills through the safe use of hunting equipment, including firearms, and their relationship to hunting situations.  Team members can participate in any or all three of the clay target disciplines: 5-Stand, Skeet, and Sporting Clays.
