The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) would like to inform the public that during the January 23, 2025 meeting of the Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, it was voted, for this year only, the 2024–2025 either-sex white-tailed deer season was extended through thirty (30) minutes after sunset on Sunday, February 2, 2025. This extension shall apply to private lands only in the Delta, Hills, and North Central Deer Management Units (DMUs).  The Southeast DMU is not included or affected by this season extension and will still end on Saturday, February 15, 2025.

Through MISS. CODE ANN. §49-7-31(1)(g), when the open season on deer ends on a Friday, the commission shall have the authority to extend the season until thirty (30) minutes after sunset on the following Sunday.

The season extension shall only apply to season dates and does not increase or otherwise affect the annual bag limit. MDWFP encourages hunters to exercise their bag limit, particularly antlerless deer, and submit any deer taken during these additional days to be tested for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD).
