Roosevelt State Park is conveniently located between Meridian and Jackson, Mississippi. Roosevelt State Park offers an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities in a picturesque setting. The park's scenic overlook provides a panoramic view of the Bienville National Forest. The gently sloping landscape is particularly striking during the fall when the forest is bright with autumn colors.

Things To Do

Roosevelt State Park offers a variety of recreational activities and facilities. These include a visitor center, banquet hall, meeting rooms, performing arts and media center, picnic area, picnic pavilions, playgrounds, disc golf, softball field, Shadow Lake Splash Zone—a seasonal swimming pool and water slide—tennis courts, nature trails, mountain biking trails, kayak rentals, and a camp store. Fishing, boating, and water skiing are available on Shadow Lake, a 150-acre spring-fed lake.

The Alfreda Harris Lodge houses the visitor center, park office, camp store, meeting rooms, and dining hall. The meeting rooms are suitable for business conferences, public meetings, and group gatherings, and the facilities can accommodate gatherings of up to 250 people. The Commons Room features a large fireplace and is available for family reunions, banquets, receptions, and conferences. 

The Conference Center is located on the left side of the park en route to the Group Camp, and can accommodate up to 90 people.

The Livingston Performing Arts & Media Center is a 600-seat community entertainment facility. It is a great place for business conferences and seminars, school and church events, plays, pageants, and ballet performances. 

Picnic Sites/Pavilions

Picnic sites complete with grills are located throughout the day-use area and many have beautiful lakeside views.

Five pavilions of various sizes are available for rent; each pavilion includes picnic tables, water, electricity, and a barbeque grill. These are great facilities for group outings, family reunions, and company picnics.

Playground

Three playgrounds are located throughout the park.

Nature Trail

Nature trails wind throughout the park. You can experience 8 unique trails totaling approximately 4.8 miles. The trails not only connect different areas of the park, but also provide exploration of the woods and unobstructed views of native trees, flowers, and wildlife.

 

Disc Golf

Moccasin Bend Disc Golf Course is an 18-hole course that meanders across open terrain and through the park's wooded areas. It is open to the public free of charge; however, the normal park entrance fee is required.

Tennis
Tennis Courts

Two tennis courts are available for day use. The courts are located across from the Alfreda- Harris Lodge. A fee is charged for using the tennis courts.

Water Park

The Shadow Lake Splash Zone features a 2,600-square-foot pool overlooking Shadow Lake. The pool's depth ranges from three feet to five feet six inches. The concession stand serves ice cream, drinks, nachos, candy, and pickles. Restrooms and changing facilities are available inside of the pool area.

Adjacent to the swimming pool is a water slide with a landing pool. The water slide features five twisting turns beginning at a height of 36 feet above the landing pool.

The Shadow Lake Splash Zone opens Memorial Day weekend for the summer season and closes after Labor Day weekend. Once school starts in August, the pool is only open on weekends. Pool hours are 9:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

NOTICE:

  • Children 3 and under are required to wear swim diapers in the pool
  • Any child under the age of 12 MUST be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older
  • To ride the slide, one must be 36 inches or taller

Water Activities
Shadow Lake


Roosevelt State Park features Shadow Lake a 150-acre spring fed lake offering fishing and water sports.

Fishing


Year-round fishing is permitted. The lake is stocked with bass, crappie, bream, and catfish. Biologists check Shadow Lake yearly for restocking needs. MDWFP fisheries department biologists perform fertilization and other enhancements to the lake as deemed necessary.

A Mississippi fishing license is required for all people between the ages of 16 and 65. License may be purchased at the park office for a fee.

Boating


A boat launch and paved trailer parking area is located at the southeast end of the lake. Daily or annual permits are available for a fee. See park office for more details. 

Pleasure boating, skiing, tubing, and jet skis are allowed from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM. All other times and dates are idle speed only (no wake zone). 

Stay The Night

Guests have several options for staying overnight. The park offers 110 RV campsites, 15 vacation cabins, a primitive camping area, a motel, and a group camp facility. These facilities are located in wooded areas with views of Shadow Lake.

Developed Camping

Developed RV Campsites (The campgrounds are under renovations at this time and not available to rent)

There are 110 campsites available for RV camping which features picnic tables and grills. All sites will have 50-amp, 30-amp, and 20-amp electricity, sewer, and water. Many campsites feature views of Shadow Lake, and some feature waterfront access. Campground roads and RV pads are paved. 

All of the RV pads are within easy access to a central sewage dumping station and a bathhouse with hot showers.

 
Vacation Cabins

Roosevelt features 15 cabins with beautiful views of Shadow Lake. Cabins are furnished with queen size beds, bed and bath linens, television, and basic kitchen equipment. All cabins are air-conditioned and heated. Every cabin features a screened-in porch. Reservations can be made by calling the park at (601) 732-6316 or by our online reservation system.

Motels

Roosevelt offers a lakefront motel with 20 rooms located near the Alfreda - Harris Lodge. Each room provides views of Shadow Lake and is furnished with queen size beds, television, bed and bath linens, and a kitchenette with basic kitchen equipment. Reservations can be made by calling the park at (601) 732-6316 or by our online reservation system.

Group Camp

The group camp facility is located on the west side of Shadow Lake and offers housing for up to 128 campers. Housing is provided in eight air conditioned and heated dormitory style huts. Sixteen campers can be accommodated in each hut. All sleeping quarters are bunk style. Campers must furnish their own linens, towels, pillow, soap, and other personal items.

The dining room comfortably seats 128 and can also be used as a meeting room.

Laundry Facilities

Washers and dryers are located at the bathhouse in each campground. 

Primitive Camping

A wooded area on the upper west end of Shadow Lake is available for primitive tent camping on a first-come, first serve basis. Water is available in the area. A bathhouse featuring hot showers is located just across the dam from the primitive camping area.  Contact the park for availability (601) 732-6316
