After stuffing yourself at a picnic, you can walk off the calories along a scenic nature trail. Hike rocky ridges or smell the flowers along shaded forest paths. Lake Lowndes offers a variety of trails to accommodate everyone from the recreational walker to those training for the marathon. The Opossum Nature Trail is covered in different species of plants and trees, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals. A 3.5 mile nature trail winds through the backside of the park, providing a close look at native birds, plants and wildlife. If you wanted to keep hiking once the trail ends, hike down the park road towards the end of the park to make your hike 5.6 miles.
