11:30 am: KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Chase Egli
Title: "BITE CLUB: Identifying Fossil Shark Teeth Like a Pro"
Egli will discuss properly identifying shark teeth based on their morphology (form) and explain variability within a single jaw of a shark. It will be specific to Mississippi and Alabama shark teeth.
About Our Speaker: Chase Egli is a Master's Student at the University of Alabama, where he got his Bachelor's of Science in Geology. While his thesis work pertains to geologic mapping, sedimentology, and structural geology, his independent research focuses on palaeoichthyology. More specifically, he studies fossil shark morphology, taxonomy, and phylogeny. Egli has worked with the Mammoth Cave research team to help publish on the Paleozoic shark teeth found within the cave and has also published his own work on Paleozoic sharks in Alabama. Egli plans to apply for PhD programs that better align with his body of work.
