Spring is almost here and the air is a-buzz with our pollinator friends!

Join us for “Pollinator Day” where exhibitors will teach us how to conserve and celebrate our pollinator populations through engaging activities.

Special exhibitor stations will showcase information about how pollinators not only contribute to one of every three bites of food you eat, but also support healthy ecosystems that stabilize soils, support other wildlife, and clean the air.

This event is included with museum admission or MMNSF Membership.

Activities Include (10 a.m. - 2 p.m.):

  • Camp Creek Natives selling native plants
  • Central MS Beekeepers Association's Erin Losset: honey and the tools of her craft, so you can learn about beekeeping
  • USM graduate student Kristen Robinson: a microscope so you can see pollinators up close
  • Visiting from Alabama, graduate student Kelton Verble: virtual "bumble bee" game about bee communication
  • Artist Joe MacGown: fascinating insect art
  • Artist Robin Veerkamp: illustrator of native plants and landscapes
  • The Urban Forestry Council: beautiful pollinator mobile so you can selfie for science
  • MS Bug Blues: showcasing invasive insects and will share practical tips for what you can do to prevent them
  • Home Depot: "hands-on habitat" building project that you can take home

11:30 a.m. - 12:30 a.m.: To add to this year's fun, we will premiere a new movie with the help of the MS Film Society called, "WHERE THE BUTTERFLIES GO". In a desperate attempt to host his own children’s nature show, a fumbling filmmaker travels 3,000 miles asking North Americans how to save the endangered monarch butterfly, and ourselves, from extinction. Fraser Jones (Director, Producer, Host) is a nonfiction filmmaker hailing from Atlanta, Georgia. After studying film at NYU, he directed a comedy feature film called Your Ride Is Here, wrote a show for Nickelodeon, went to clown school, and made a few documentaries about the environment. His work has earned him a Vimeo Staff Pick, The Redford Center Grant, The Spiritual Ecology Fellowship, PBS’ Reel South Award, and numerous awards at international film festivals. Fraser aims to continue combining nonfiction filmmaking and humor in hopes of making people feel less alone.
