Fishing Education & Outreach

Mississippi has diverse aquatic habitats that provide a wide variety of angling experiences. It is the primary goal of the Fishing Education and Outreach Program to highlight these opportunities to the public and get more people fishing. We realize that some segments of our state have not had the chance or knowledge to get outdoors. The Fishing Rodeo program offers children the chance to wet a line in a controlled area. Fish biology and aquatic information can also be had with a visit to the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science in Jackson or our new North Mississippi Education and Visitors Center in Enid. There you can check out the aquaria, find displays of fish and fishing tackle, and see what a fish biologist does.

All About Fishing

  • Do you already know how to fish and just need some information before you go? Up-to-date Fishing Reports give you the wheres and hows to catch the big ones. These reports are updated weekly from February through November.
  • Anglers wanting more information about their favorite fishing spot can read the Reel Facts Sheets. Reel Facts summarize fish and angler data collected by MDWFP Fisheries Biologists.
  • Looking for a boat ramp? Visit Ramps & Piers to find information on ramp locations, type of ramp, and cost, if any.
  • You caught a big fish, but is it a record? Check out current Mississippi Sport Fish Records and Sport Fish Record Applications for Rod & Reel Record Fish, Trophy Record Fish, and Fly Rod Record Fish.
  • Ready to introduce a budding angler to the joys of fishing? The Youth Fishing Rodeo offers quality fishing experiences and educational activities focusing on fish, fishing, and environmental concerns.
