Each park manages its park host calendar, and most rely on volunteers throughout the year. Hosts serve a minimum of one month and a maximum of six months; this may be extended with the park administrator's approval.

  • Pass a criminal background check. 
  • Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds. 
  • Show proficiency in operating various equipment, including weed eaters, zero-turn mowers, and leaf blowers.  
  • Position also requires standing for long periods, carrying, and walking.  
  • Must have your own motor home.

Camp Host Locations and Job Duties

Percy Quin State Park
Percy Quin State Park is opening a 3-month camp host position starting in November 2024. Please read the requirements and responsibilities below before applying. 

Requirements:

  • The minimum age requirement is 21 years of age. 
  • Pass a criminal background check. 
  • Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds. 
  • Show proficiency in operating various equipment, including weed eaters, zero-turn mowers, and leaf blowers.  
  • Position also requires standing for long periods, carrying, and walking.  
  • Must have your own motor home.  
  • Once accepted into the program, Camp Hosts must pay for themselves to be bonded for insurance purposes. 

Camp Host Duties at Percy Quin:
1. Visitor Assistance and Information: Greet visitors and provide information about the park, including attractions, trails, facilities, rules, and regulations. Answer questions and provide directions within the park. Distribute maps, brochures, and other informational materials.

2. Campsite Management: Assist visitors with campsite selection and registration. Ensure campsites are properly maintained and ready for new arrivals. Monitor campsite occupancy and report any issues to park staff.

3. Safety and Security: Patrol the park to ensure the safety and security of visitors and their property. Enforce park rules and regulations to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors. Report any suspicious activities or emergencies to park authorities.

4. Maintenance and Cleaning: Perform light maintenance tasks, such as picking up litter, cleaning restrooms, and maintaining picnic areas. Ensure that facilities such as restrooms, showers, and common areas are clean and well-stocked. Monitor and report any maintenance issues to park staff.

5. Event and Activity Support: Assist with the organization and implementation of park programs, events, and activities. Help set up and take down equipment for events. Provide information and support to event participants.

6. Environmental Stewardship:  Promote conservation and environmental awareness among park visitors. Participate in park conservation projects, such as habitat restoration and wildlife monitoring. Educate visitors about Leave No Trace principles and responsible outdoor behavior.

7. Administrative Duties: Keep accurate records of visitor interactions, incidents, and maintenance tasks. If applicable, assist with collecting fees and managing reservations. Help with inventory and distribution of supplies and materials.

8. Communication:  Maintain regular communication with park staff and report any issues or concerns. Use two-way radios, phones, or other communication devices as needed. Participate in meetings and training sessions with park staff.

9. Emergency Response:  Assist with first aid and emergency response as needed. Provide support during emergency situations, such as evacuations or search and rescue operations. Be familiar with emergency procedures and locations of emergency equipment.

10. Community Engagement:  Foster a positive relationship with the local community and park visitors. Participate in community outreach and educational programs. Represent the park in a friendly and professional manner.
